Notice to alert property owners of the importance of signing the Estate Agency Agreement

The Authority has produced a special notice to reiterate to property owners the importance of signing the Estate Agency Agreement when disposing of a property through an estate agent. The notice is being produced at the suggestion of trade associations to facilitate the work of practitioners, considering the fact that some property owners still do not have a thorough understanding of the purpose that the Estate Agency Agreement serves and the legal issues thereto related. It reads as follows:

Practitioners may want to show the notice to clients when circumstances require to help them understand that it is a legal requirement for the Estate Agency Agreement to be signed and that the document exists to protect the interests of both client and agent. In order that the notice may also be shown by practitioners to clients when they are working away from their offices, it is also printed on a pocket-sized plastic card.

The EAA logo appears on both the notice and the plastic card version to indicate that the advice contained therein has been issued with Authority.
