EAA publishes new monographs

The Estate Agents Authority (EAA) has published another four updated monographs, namely, Conveyancing, Hong Kong Domestic Tenancy, Agency Law and Mortgages in addition to two others published last October. The two previously published monographs are Interpretation of a Land Search and Encumbrances.

The six monographs will provide practitioners with solid information on core legal and practical issues of the estate agency trade. Also, with the raising of standards for the qualifying examinations in the past two years, these monographs will be very useful for anyone preparing for the examinations to get a good understanding of these issues.

EAA has also published a booklet entitled Code of Ethics and Guide to the Estate Agents Ordinance to replace the Practice Directions issued on 1 January 2002. The new booklet comprises two parts: the Code of Ethics, with which all practitioners must comply and is unchanged from the one issued on 1 January 2002; and the Guide to the Estate Agents Ordinance, which introduces the key provisions in the Estate Agents Ordinance.

EAA has sent the new booklet, together with collection coupons for the four new monographs, to estate agency practitioners. Each practitioner, upon filling in his/her licence number on the coupon, is entitled to receive a free copy of each of the four monographs by presenting the coupon at the office of either EAA or the trade association of which he/she is a member.

The Code of Ethics and Guide to the Estate Agents Ordinance and the six monographs have been posted on the EAA website (www.eaa.org.hk). They are also available for purchase at the EAA office for $20 and $30 each respectively.

EAA is also working on a Study Guide which covers the syllabi of the Estate Agents Qualifying Examinations and Salespersons Qualifying Examinations. The Study Guide will be a valuable resource for those preparing for the qualifying examinations and will be published in the first half of 2007.
