Reminder from Buildings Department on Illegal Domestic Use in Industrial Buildings

The Buildings Department (“BD”) wrote to the EAA to remind licensees that it is illegal to change the approved workshop/factory uses in industrial building to domestic as it is highly hazardous to the occupants. Estate agency practitioners are also reminded to emphasise to potential purchaser/tenants of industrial premises that domestic use of workshop units are strictly prohibited and subject to vigorous enforcement action by BD under the Buildings Ordinance.

BD encourages licensees to report to BD for their necessary enforcement action when noticing industrial units are used for domestic purpose, via BD’s hotline: 2626 1616 (handled by “1823”), the electronic reporting form at BD’s webpage www.bd.gov.hk, fax: 2537 4992 or by email: enquiry@bd.gov.hk
