Preparation the key to Qualifying Examination success

Ms Edna Fung has become the first candidate to gain a commendation in the revamped Estate Agents Qualifying Examination. Ms Fung took the new-format examination in July 2005 and was the only entrant to receive the accolade.

Ms Fung's interest in estate agency work was first sparked by her former job at a private investment firm. Her work largely involved handling sale and purchase and tenancy matters and this meant almost daily contact with estate agents in order to obtain the latest market information. However, during the course of her job, Ms Fung came across estate agents with questionable ethics. She also suspected some agents of possible misrepresentation.

To find out more about property transactions, the law and the work of estate agents, Ms Fung decided to sit the Estate Agents Qualifying Examination. Motivated by her interest, Ms Fung spent considerable time preparing for the test. She joined a Qualifying Examination preparatory course and thoroughly studied the laws related to estate agency work, including the Estate Agents Ordinance and Building Management Ordinance, as well as common law, equity law, agency law, contract law and company law.

She said candidates for the Qualifying Examination should also study how government departments involved with property-related matters operate and stay in touch with the latest information about the real estate sector.

Ms Fung now works for an insurance company where she is responsible for analysing clients' financial situation and proposing financial plans. She is confident that her knowledge of the estate agency trade and real estate sector enables her to provide clients with comprehensive information if they plan to buy property.
