Basic requirements for Hong Kong estate agents
Only those fulfilling the following requirements may apply for nomination:
- holding a valid estate agent's licence (individual) (such licence not having been obtained through any recognition scheme between Hong Kong and other countries or regions);
- having a total of not less than 5 years of estate agency or related working experience after holding an estate agent's licence (individual);
- having no criminal conviction record; and
- being in general good health.
The above requirements are set by the China Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and Agents (CIREA) and are continuing requirements. In other words, a person having obtained recognition must continue to fulfill the above requirements or else the recognition may be revoked.
Selection criteria
Since a quota is applied, in the event of an over subscription, a point system will be adopted and the following criteria will be considered:
- having completed a university education or above (1 point);
- having a total of more than 5 but less than 10 years of estate agency or related working experience (1 point); more than 10 years of such experience (2 points) (No more than 2 points will be awarded for this criterion);
- having obtained 12 or more points in EAA’s Continuing Professional Development Scheme (whether in core or non-core activities) in the 12 months immediately prior to the application for nomination (points obtained pursuant to conditions attached to a licence will not be considered) (1 point).
A maximum of 4 points will be awarded under the point system.
